introduction to feng shui
feng shui is the ancient chinese art and science of placement for the balance of yin and yang and the optimal flow of 'chi' (life-force energy) around and within a space or property.

literally meaning 'wind' and 'water,' the flowing elements that shape the surface of the earth, feng shui empowers us to trust and work with the various forces, seen and unseen, that guide and shape our lives. it helps us to live in harmony with our true selves and those around us, and in balance with the rhythm of an ever-changing world.

feng shui largely works around two principles:

>	the spaces in which we spend our time (particularly our homes and workspaces) tell the stories of our past, reflect our present, and hold the keys to our future
>	we are affected on both a physiological and psychological level by the various aspects (design, colors, materials, elemental balance, furniture arrangement, surrounding landscape) of these spaces

by optimizing the energetic and physical health of a space, one increases the positive flow of energy in one's life... and in the lives of all those who enter the space. in addition, feng shui teaches that the nine general areas of our lives (health, career, spirituality and inner wisdom, family, prosperity, fame, love and relationships, creativity and children, helpful people and travel) each have a correlating area in the home - or office, building, even desk! - that can be fine-tuned or enhanced to help advance one's personal goals.

feng shui is not, in itself, a type of interior design. its principles can therefore be easily applied to any type of setting and integrated with any decorative style. no matter what the environment, the general goal of feng shui is always the same: to create a balanced and pleasant space for the well-being of all those live, work or visit there.
